Doobie Brothers

Review & Photos by Christ Schmitt

The humid evening air at the Ithink Ampitheatre in West Palm Beach was electric with anticipation as fans gathered for an unforgettable night of blues and classic rock & rock. Even the threat of rain, wouldn’t deter these two Icons from putting on a spectacular show.

Legendary Blues artist Robert Cray, started the night off with his soulful voice and masterful guitar work, Setting the tone for the evening. Opening with the classic “Anything you Want,” Cray immediately captivated the audience, drawing them into his world of blues with his smooth, effortless style. His set continued with a heartfelt rendition of “Where Do I Go from Here,” showcasing his impeccable guitar skills and emotive vocals. The audience swayed and sang along, clearly moved by his soulful delivery and timeless sound.

As the final notes of Cray’s set faded, The Doobie Brothers took the stage to thunderous applause. Launching into “Take Me in Your Arms,” the band delivered an energetic and polished performance that had everyone on their feet. Their seamless blend of rock, soul, and blues was on full display with hits like “Here to Love You” and “China Grove.”

Original members Patrick Simmons (guitar, vocals) and Tom Johnston (guitar, vocals), along with the equally-as-famous-as-a-solo-artist Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocals), were there, as well as fellow long-timer John McFee (guitar, vocals), John Cowan (Bass, vocals), Ed Toth (Drums) and three additional backing band members.

The highlight of the night came during “Black Water,” where the amphitheater transformed into a sing-along, the audience’s voices melding with the band’s harmonies. The Doobie Brothers closed the night with the powerful “Takin’ It to the Streets,” & “Listen to the Music”, leaving the crowd exhilarated and clamoring for more.
