Natalie Merchant joined 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 and was the lead vocalist for the group. She remained with the group for their first seven albums and left it to begin her solo career in 1993. She has since released nine studio albums as a solo artist. 2017 was her last release, The Natalie Merchant Collection 10-CD Box Set, including all eight of her solo studio albums from the past three decades. A ninth disc, Butterfly, is a new studio set featuring four new songs and six reinterpreted selections from her catalog, all arranged for string quartet. The final disc is Rarities, a collection of fifteen rare and previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1998 and 2017. She will be heading out on the road in 2023 and joined by a band and the South Florida Symphony Orchestra.
